On Wednesday, April 13th, the Miami Valley Building Trades Apprenticeship Group held its Annual Breakfast & Expo at the Electricians Conference Center.  40 Educators attended the event to gather information to take back to students regarding viable career pathways in the Construction Industry through apprenticeship training.

Randy Fox, Executive Director, AGC, West Central Ohio Division, opened the program with welcoming remarks and tended to emcee duties for the day.  After all enjoyed a breakfast buffet, Patrick Reardon, Executive Administrator, ODJFS, presented “Ohio’s Registered Apprenticeship Program.”  In the second session, Tony Trapp and Kendra Kemmere shared Upper Valley CTC’s Pre-Apprenticeship Opportunities; then, Bob Verhoff, Tri-C spoke on  “Articulation and Apprenticeship Partnerships.

A highlight of the day was Ciara Dickerson who spoke on her journey as a 1st Year Electrical Apprentice.  Many of the attendees requested Ms. Dickerson come speak to students directly.

The Breakfast and Expo concluded with a Coordinators’ Roundtable.  This session was well-received and Coordinators responded to audience questions.

During closing comments, two scholarships were awarded.  A $250 scholarship offered by the West Central OH Laborers JATC was won by Joye Stier, Dayton Public Schools; and Mary Jo Hines, Piqua/Upper Valley CC, won the $500 scholarship awarded by the MV Building Trades Apprenticeship Group.
